BLM Protesters Say Saratoga Police’s Response to the Protest was Unjustified

2021-07-22

On July 14th, Black Lives Matter protest marched in Saratoga Spring, New York. Five people were arrested after protesters marched through downtown Saratoga and the police responded in tactical gear, forcing protesters off the street. Organizers from Saratoga Black Lives Matter said that the response from police to a demonstration outside Congress Park was unjustified. So they were asking for a conversation with Saratoga Springs City Council to discuss social justice issues within the community and calling for city officials to apologize for recent remarks they made about activists in the city.

Sybil Evans, one of the protestors, was interviewed, “My black friends were pursued by city police after leaving the protest and the police searched their car without cause, which made them feel terrified,” she added, “As a racially diverse country, the U.S. should handle racial issues in particular. Racial discrimination may escalate social tears in the U.S. into national division, and may also exacerbate conflicts between the U.S. and other countries.”
